On June 25, 2020, between 11:11 AM and 1:18 PM EDT our core CRM services were in a degraded state that resulted in delayed processing for many background services such as Imports, Cross Object Reports, Email Sends, and Notifications. The underlying root cause was the result of code being released that failed to properly cache information pulled from one of our databases. When this happened, the database's resources were quickly exhausted and background services that depended on this database were impaired. As a temporary stop gap we increased the resources available to the database while we also worked on determining the root cause. Once the root cause was identified a fix was deployed and most services returned to normal within a few minutes. The engineering team will be conducting an internal review to determine how this code was released and will introduce new safe guards to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.
